The United States Congress passed The Health Insurance Portability Act (HIPAA), as a set of standards that simplify electronic transactions and define minimum requirements for network security. The Administrative Simplification section of HIPAA is designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare system by standardizing the electronic data for specified administrative and financial transactions, while protecting the security and confidentiality of that information.
Aurora Medical Billing, LLC is committed to the privacy of all patient's protected health information (PHI), and the security of that information as it relates to transmission. Aurora Medical Billing, LLC is committed to meeting all requirements of HIPAA regulations.
The Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) has issued a "Compliance Program Guidance for Third-Party Medical Billing Companies." The guidance is designed to assist companies that process bills for health care providers. 63 Fed. Reg. 70,138 (Dec. 18, 1998). The compliance elements in the new guidance comport with those set forth in the Federal Sentencing Guidelines and the OIG's previously issued compliance program guidelines.
Aurora Medical Billing, LLC's compliance program includes the following elements:
- Implementation of written policies, procedures and standards of conduct;
- Designation of a high-level compliance officer and other appropriate officials;
- Development of training and education programs;
- Creation of hot lines or other measures for receiving complaints and procedures for protecting callers from retaliation;
- Enforcement of standards through well-publicized disciplinary directives;
- Performance of internal audits, and
- Prompt response to detected offenses through corrective action;
